Paula Crouch Thrasher – Atlanta Journal - Constitution:
MacGregor Room, Linne 'Ardan, Lake Lure, N.C.
Take the high road or low road --- either way, you'll be transported to the Scottish Highlands when you spend the night as guests of the Laird of Linne 'Ardan and Guidwife, Aaron and Linda White, who invite you to leave behind your fasheous whingin' (troubles and cares).
Don't expect a cheesy tartan fantasy in the MacGregor --- or any of the other three rooms in the lodge constructed of hand-hewn logs and set on 10 woodsy acres. Instead, the decor reflects the rusticity of 19th-century Scotland: Southern heart pine floors, interior log walls, a four-poster antique rope bed topped with a handmade quilt, antique armoire and the soft glow of oil lamps (although there is electric lighting as well).
A gourmet Scottish breakfast might include Scot's Woodcock (cream scones topped with eggs, scrambled with chopped fresh vegetables and country ham, and topped with a homemade cheese sauce) or Partan Uachdar (crab cakes in a creamy shrimp sauce capped with a pinwheel cheese scone).
In the afternoon, guests are invited to the Laird's high tea featuring Scottish tea and other selected beverages, finger sandwiches, assorted home-baked scones, biscuits and cakes, various jams, jellies and marmalades and Devonshire cream.
The innkeepers can book activities such as the Miller's Land of Waterfalls tour, fishing with Lewis No Clark Expeditions, skiing and boating with Lake Lure Adventure Co., guided Lake Lure tours, horseback riding at Riverside Stables and, for the ultimate Scottish experience, golfing at two area links. Also, Rioghaile L'amhan (Royal Touch Spa Treatments) can be arranged.
